Green Smoothie Detox Day Nine

The morning was abuzz with anticipation. I knew the kitchen was well stocked once again and I was excited about digging into some more new flavors. My stomach started growling as soon as my feet hit the floor.

Breakfast: I went with a savory again this morning, but skipped the cayenne pepper. ½ cup tomato juice, 1 large pinch of parsley, 1 large handful of spinach, 1 green onion. It was simple and refreshing.

Lunch: There was a recipe that I noticed when the Green smoothie detox first arrived. I was thrilled to dig into the chili. I started with ½ onion, ½ yellow bell pepper, 1 large plum tomato, ½ cup tomato juice, 1 thin zucchini, two sun-dried tomato (no oil) – I chopped everything small except the tomato and kept it chunky. I put the chunky tomato, half of the onion and half of the bell pepper in a bowl. Everything else went into the blender with 1 tsp cumin. I blended until just liquid and poured over the other in the bowl. It was cold chili but man was it good. I had to work to save a bite for my husband to try.

Dinner: I used the recipe for the chili broth and made a second batch. I ate that with a baked potato.

I am thrilled to have all the different flavors back in my refrigerator, but I still have a tendency to lean towards certain flavors. It is important that I continue to experiment with the different recipes that are provided through the daily emails sent out by the Green Smoothie Queens for my 21 day detox. These recipes not only push me to try new flavors, but they help me to learn that those flavors are fun and exciting. That can be enough to keep me from falling back into my old habits because they are easier.
